Last week, I talked about how Pantone names ten colors every year that are to be the most popular and then started listing how to mix each of those colors with a basic watercolor palette .
1. Serenity Blue
For the first time ever Pantone named two colors as color of the year. The first is Rose Quartz and thebsecond Serenity Blue.
Serenity Blue is light and calm almost baby blue with a hint of purple. To make serenity blue take a cool blue and a drop of white till you find the level of blue you want. Then take the tiniest drop or swipe of red and mix to see how purple it becomes. Red is something to add gingerly because equal parts red and blue will become purple but for serenity blue we want just the suggestion of purple secondary to the softness of the light blue.
Fiesta is an efforvescant yellow-red. To make Fiesta take mostly warm red mixed with a drop of touch warm yellow.
3. Limpet Shell
Limpet Shell is an aqua-like blue green. To make Limpet shell mix mostly cool blue with a drop or two of cool yellow.
4. Lilac Grey
Lilac grey is a warm neutral that'll go with anything. To make Lilac Grey we first have to create a grey base. To make grey mix warm yellow, warm blue, and warm red. Then add a swipe each of warm blue and warm red checking where the tint is and adding water or red/blue till you achieve the amount of purple you want in your grey.
Buttercup is a vivacious, spring-y yellow like a sunflower. Bittercup doesnt take a lot of mixing, you just need a heavily pigmented warm yellow.
